My CNY earring collection is finally out ! They were inspired by my need to wear something red and festive that would go with my CNY attire (eg RED! Hahaha!). I met a nice Japanese lady who made beautiful flowers out of polymer clay and commissioned her to make some rose buds for me in a variety of colours. I added my own spin to them and here they are ! Blooms for your ears ! ;)

I will be also introducing a new type of 14kt gold-fill (more expensive than your standard gold plated) earrings in the form of "leverbacks." They have an "closed" part at the back of the earring to provide a bit more security (eg yours truly loosing an earring at a kid's bday party recently when I did not use leverbacks ! I have learnt my lesson!)...Leverbacks are a bit more expensive (more parts, more gold) but they provide extra security and have a bit of a vintage look which was perfect for the designs.

The Chinese New Year is approaching fast and its a dragon one as well ! Vintage dragons are some of the hardest pieces to find without going overboard on the tackiness haha! I came across these pink enamel dragons a few years back and was secretly hoarding them to turn them into kerongsang pins but did not find the time !

The next thing I knew, it was a Dragon New Year! So what better time to release them as diorama bracelets (I'm still hooked on producing items to tell little stories ! Must stop this ! ;)..)

How to mould hard boiled eggs

Step 1: Buy cute egg moulds. I bought mine from Takashimaya B1 Homeware section (two in one packet).

Step 2: Hard boil your eggs (small size is recommended).

Step 3: Peel the egg and while it is still warm, place them into your moulds.

Step 4: Immerse your mould (with egg) into a bowl of COLD water for 10 mins. Make sure cold water covers the mould.

Step 5: Pop open the mould and voila!

Bear and bunny eggs ! You can trim the edges of the egg to make them neater but my kids were bugging me to let them eat their breakfast ...

Mum: "So, what's it taste like guys?"

How to make Tom Binns inspired earrings

This has been a very difficult month... :(...I should be working (you would think that all the raw materials on my desk would prod me along but no...) and I am horsing around with the kids at the malls, movies, painting and everything BUT ! aww...but its Christmas ! and the holidays ! ....Not very business-minded huh ?

So here's another home based project that will only take you 20 mins (+ 60 mins to dry) !

How to make "Tom Binn earrings" at a FRACTION of the cost ! :)

Step 1: Find/buy a pair of rhinestone earrings

I picked up some from Chomel (yes...I was at Vivocity to see Puss in Boots yesterday and there was a Chomel there ...cough..cough). You can get el cheapo ones from Chameleon or Diva to practice on before using REAL vintage ones if so required ;)

Step 2: Buy some markers or paints

Any colour markers or even your kids' acrylic poster paints will do..I experimented with car enamel paint too ! You will also need a normal sharp point paint brush. Mine is SGD1.95 from Spotlight.

Step 3: Paint your earrings stone by stone

It's a lot easier than you would think it is. Just gently and careful colour the stones with paint ! How simple is that ! I used a pink marker pen for the centre stone and marker pens on sale at Home-Fix-It for SGD1.50 for the other stones.

Step 4: Paint by layers

You can create different colour mixes or intensities if you layer your paints. Eg let each layer of paint dry for 10 mins before painting over it.

Step 5: Seal with Varnish

Spray any paint varnish (or sealant - easily purchased from Art Friend) and leave to dry. I prefer overnight but 1 hour is more than enough...Voila ! Your earrings are ready :)

PS. you can be more adventurous with your colours and use fluorescents... I will be using those for my next pair ! ha ha !

The kids' faces change so frequently as they grow (fast!) we thought it was time to quickly "record" their looks before they mature more! Early this morning we trooped down to KidsPictures' studio in Tanglin Mall to set the process going !

Here are some of the pics of the kids posing ! They had incredible fun and it was over in an hour ..Phew!

The team at KidsPictures were super fabulous ! The kids had a ball and enjoyed the experience so much ! Will post a few of the final pics next week ...can't wait !

Welcome to our tree-decoration affair !

In the beginning, there were only 2 of us...now there are 4 !

Our first Christmas tree, small enough to fit into the bedsit when we were first married :)

Laying out the decorations for the official tree decoration ceremony ! A tradition (since Alex was born) to do this as a family with Bing Crosby singing the Christmas carols :)...mulled wine optional and nowadays non-existent ha ha!

Horsing around while Dad strings up the lights on the tree ;)

Our haphazard tree decorated by a 8yr old and a 4 yr old with supervision (ignored) by a 41yr old..they insisted that the theme of the tree was RED (only) with Santa Clauses everywhere...in the end we have a crazy looking tree but special because it was mainly done by them :)

My favourite tourist attraction in London

Looks deceptive right ? ...Well, inside is the most fascinating display I have ever seen ! What is inside ? A black dark room with one long bench to sit and a large screen the size of the whole back wall. The screen shows a Nativity scene. But this Nativity scene changes as time passes (continual play) with characters walking in and out randomly. Everything changes gradually; weather, scenarios etc and no one knows when it will end and what the next scene will look like!

This is a promo shot scene (but different from the one I saw) :

A computer has all the "information" inputted into it and it will randomly put them together however it wants ! I found myself waiting to see what happens next and reluctant to leave ! Now that's a great tourist attraction :)

We finally had a chance to visit the famous Hyde Park Winter Wonderland fair ! Four very excited kids (me being the ring leader) tropped through the park with a 25min hike to get to the fairgrounds. These are some of the pictures we took :)

(yes...I can hear many of you say "finally!")...We will also be shipping internationally (via DHL) and there will be a new range called "Luxe". Luxe will use semi-precious stones from Brazil; a sample in the picture above, and will be perfect for dinner, work and play !

For those who sign up to the Heatherdesigns facebook, they will be the first to get updates on new looks and arrivals to the webstore. Webstore is targeted for opening early November ! Just in time for Christmas !

Sanrio Fiesta 2011 @ Takashimaya!

As you all know, I am a big "Hello Kitty" fan (cough)..well not that "big" compared to the stampede at today's members preview of the Sanrio Fiesta at 10am ! I arrived late at 9.58am and had to join a HUGE queue to go in ;P...but since I'm a bit of old pro at Barney's Annual Sale (yes the one with no dressing rooms!)..I was able to snag a couple of goodies at the bottom of the boxes brought out 10 mins AFTER the event opens ! Yes...I'm a bit of a dumpster diving gal ;)... Here are some pictures of the crowd, already looking quite thin at 10.30am :)..I had no time to take pics while snapping up the goodies ha ha ha ha!

The crowds were at the Vivitix areas but the good stuff had been grabbed already :(

How to make colourful kiddy bangles

Starting the first of my "how to" series ! ...Yes, for all those who know me, I AM procrastinating over the new collections...

First buy this kit from "A Better Toy Store" in Takashimaya:

This is what it is inside; 2 empty rubber hoses (ha ha!), 2 plugs, and beads !

Next, take a plug and "plug" one side of the hose. Then start putting the beads in. It is extremely simple. Watch the 4 year old do it.

Do this part carefully if not you will spend more time on the floor picking up beads ! Notice the concentration?

NOW, here's where Heather (who has no patience) cheats....

(get a small funnel and a teaspoon to put the beads in..)

Voila ! Anna's finished bracelet...she filled her's one bead by one bead while mummy used the funnel ;)

You can add swarovski crystals to them to make them really shine ! Mine is the colour gradient one (but got a wee bit lazy at the end)..

Craft with your daughter and bond ! ;)

Saphiret ring

Saphiret glass are highly collectible and valued. Saphiret glass were made in the mid-19th century by mixing melted gold into sapphire coloured glass. Depending on the mix of gold/sapphire, the final saphirets can range from deep to light shades of brassy brown to high to low intensities of blue. In certain lights, the blue will look turquoise. Due to the rising cost of gold, production of saphirets stopped after the turn of the century.

Due to their collectibility (the Japanese are the largest collectors of saphiret jewelry), the limited quantities are traded and retraded at very expensive rates. For example, a 16mm flawed (chipped) round facetted stone can retail for USD250.

I was lucky to procure a couple of saphiret stones recently and made two into rings (one for my most loyal ring customer; Audrey and the other for myself). To my newer customers, I used to make beaded rings (in a previous life) so I thought they were the best medium to set off the colours of the saphiret.

Our household wakes up IMMENSELY early ! It is no different on public holidays and weekends (sigh)...Anna and I tropped down to our local Cold Storage by 830am to prepare for our annual National Day chocolate cupcake bake out !

Here she is eating one of those minis, wearing her new Carebear necklace (yes folks ! they are coming out in a few weeks time!) and colouring in her free NDP colouring set from Cold Storage...

And Mummy used some free time to make another sample piece ! Flower bracelets for Carousel ? ...Its very summery looking (inspired by the sun and heat I am facing!) and perfect for the lazy sunny beach weather afternoons ! ha ha ha !

Our afternoon at the Singapore Discovery Centre

A little frog and I went to the Singapore Discovery Centre today. It was pouring and there were flash flood warnings but by the time we left the house for our afternoon excursion the rain was piddling...What I love about flash flood warnings are that the roads are devoid of cars and the ones that are driving are driving cautiously eg. well behaved !

Frog was a bit afraid of the SDC as she found it too dark and noisy and I think too "old" for her but she had a great time chasing an interactive light symbol on the floor....

Frog was more interested by the surrounds of the SDC inc the huge drain outside :)

We also scored 2 free NDP fun packs ! But unfortunately they are "scaled down" versions without the interactive bitties...I really wanted a Mr. Bean maracas....

Lucite cabochons

Original '50/60s cabs some from Japan, some from USA.

Shown from oldest to newer from top (older) to bottom (newer).

Lucite cabochons (good quality ones) are getting rarer as the days go by. They were made post WW2 and the better ones are "made in Japan". The ones I buy are "NOS" or new old stock, so they still come in their original wrapping with the yellowed slip of paper that says "made in Japan."

I've been buying and hoarding lucite cabs over the last few months because I was using them to make necklaces and bracelets for Anna. The balance I have turned into the "Fairy Tales" collection - still more to come.

Of course, the Chinese have been incredibly invented and have taken to recasting this cabs into new moulds and using the moulds to make a lot of the cabs in different colours and different materials. There are good acrylic copies out there but some are horrible waxy-like plastic too (urgh)...I still am big on the originals but oh gosh are they getting dear ! :)...

Will post more interesting cabs as I find them !

Fairy Tales - A Mother and Daughter collection

The "Fairy Tales" collection is a more grown-up collection for Carousel. I wanted to make necklaces that both Anna and I could wear interchangeably or both have matching necklaces to wear out together. Anna herself is maturing (at the ripe age of 4!) and can now instruct me on the colours she likes, flower combos she wants etc ! ha ha ha !

We both developed this collection to wear, however being me I chose green pearls while Anna still sticks to her pink ones. Anyway, "Fairy Tales" will be available in Little Colette by next week. I made about 10 different necklaces, each one is different. The charms are vintage lucite charms from the US from the '50s. They were new old stocks still wrapped in their original wrapping and never used before my fingers put them together ;).

If you find a necklace that you wish to duplicate for your daughter or yourself, please feel free to tell the Little Colette girls. Duplication costs is the same however, combos of lucite flowers are dependant on availability of stocks so don't wait too long to tell me! ;)

I'm off tomorrow for a week of festivities at my sister's wedding ! This time its the tea ceremony (games whatnot) and wedding dinner ! To celebrate the occasion (again!), I made "corsages" for us to wear in addition to the flower pieces. Some colour for the boys' suits and little ones for the girls' brightly coloured dresses. All have the important "hei!" ... See ya next week !

They make my t-shirts look good ha ha!). I made a PILE of these for the shops of which each one is different (why not ? who wants to wear what the other kid wears right ? ha ha!)...

There are many variations in the shops. The ones shown here are just selected from the ones I put in ;)

Anna's pandora

When Anna turned 4 recently, I thought that it would be a nice tradition to start a charm bracelet for her; to mark birthdays and special occasions. So I took her down to Pandora at Takashimaya to start the process off. She chose a baby elephant (don't laugh) and her father picked up the bracelet for her at the Pandora Changi. He also scored a free lucky charm from a lucky draw! The fat chicken charm now sitting next to the baby elephant :)

Of course, being me, I could NOT resist the draw of the charms either so started one for myself :).. I have a queen bee (of course!), "mum" charm and a flower charm. My bracelet is not from Pandora but from the US as I prefer one bracelet right on the wrist that did not roll around. I also purchased 2 "charm stoppers" to "clamp" the charms in the middle of the bracelet so that they don't move.

Cool huh ? I'm now looking for "daughter" charms for Anna ;)

When I went on the last hol, I was in such a rush getting the kids organised at home, packing my bags last minute etc, then when I arrived in London I found that I had forgotten to pack some essentials including my hair brush and lip balm! Yup, messy me....

So I was in Boots as early as possible and picked up the bits and pieces needed to make me look presentable. The lippy I bought was the Nivea Pearly Shine. Yes, it was the pink packaging and the price; £2.50 ;)

My lips were moisturised day and night with this little stick and in addition, looked like I was wearing a pale pink lipstick during the day ! As you all know I don't wear makeup and am quite tanned so this colour actually worked out pretty well for me :)

I am reminded how great this product is everyday as I leave it in my car for emergency uses for when my lips are dry (which is like everyday !). Great value for £2.50 ! ha ha !

European Holiday -Preview of new arrivals for Colette Forum.

Preview of the new bracelet collection from Heather! Most of the enamel flowers came from a huge brooch (meant for fur coats) that I found in London. The brooch itself was hideously big but the flowers were beautiful and fabulous quality so how could I resist ? Enamel flowers (the true vintage ones) are getting harder and harder to source ! These were the only ones I could find after trawling through London !

As the lady said "You ain't finding enamel flowers for less than 20 quid, lurv ! If you can find them at all!"..then she takes this HUGE drag on her cigarette....this really happened ! ha ha ha!

The base bracelets are from 1950s old new stock. They are plated with Hamilton gold and allergic free (tested by yours truly with no rashes ! hoorah!). All bracelets are tagged with a Heather charm at the clasp.

This collection will hit the stores during 4th July week.

My sister got married ! and Anna turned 4 !

Its been a CRAZY last few weeks ! First my only (and younger) sister got married last Saturday in KL (ROM only) and then Anna turned 4 on the following day; Sunday ! I was in such a fluster trying to arrange the travel, work (designing new Carousel collection), pack and run homework sessions, it resulted in me loosing her ROM present (!!!! found it one week later just in time for the ROM phew!), lost her bridal hair dress clip for the formal wedding dress (still havent found it yet !!! Argh! but I have 3 wks before the wedding dinner and tea ceremony!) and also lost my car keys this morning ! (resulted in Anna being late for school - by quite a bit ! ha ha ha !)...

I had her cake topper customised as a gift for her ROM :) .yeah, the one I lost for several weeks....

I always loved the Fenton/Fallon look but could never wear it (too much, too heavy, too much metal of which I am allergic too ..). But the "excess" (toned down) for little girls seemed just too cool to pass off ! And my daughter surprised me by liking it too ! I thought she was the "one chain" girl. So here are the first two prototypes of the next Fenton/Fallon inspired collection for Carousel!

The collection will limited to just 5 pieces and will debut end June ! Watch this space!

Psst. while I'm designing now I'm ok with pre-orders for prefered colours etc....since I haven't made up the 5 yet ! hor hor hor ! ...Oh yeah..I found out that these looked great on me as well! So will "borrow" Anna's to wear while she's at school ! ha ha ha !

London - Of Flowers, Food and Antiquing! - Part 3 Antiquing

Heather's top tips for antiquing in London - if you have limited time, attend only the "specialised" vintage events vs the tourist oriented markets.

Some of the best specialised fairs I've been to in the last few years was "Frock Me" and "Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair". Both have websites that will show you the year's schedules; where and when they set up.

I missed "Frock Me" this year by a few days. "Frock Me" specialises in more higher end vintage/antique lace, cocktail dresses etc. Prices also tend to start from GBP50 to 250 (for the more luxe items).

"Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair" is more fun. The theme is retro/boho/hippie. Items average GBP10 (seriously!). Here we are!

These are some of the pieces I picked up for GBP10-15 each! The peach jacket is actually a 1920's lounge jacket but I found out that it looked great with either a long sleeve t or grey singlet + jeans.

This '70s hippie embroidered top is easy to wear with denim shorts and fitflops when running around doing your errands.

Easy to wear cotton dress with cutesy prints from the '60s. Great with leggings and ankle boots too ;)

Some pictures of the other fairs that I visited too. The Thursday-only Spitalsfield Antiques Market. Full of unusual stalls, chatty owners and what-nots !

I did not make it to the Greenwich Market antique days (too sick) but went for the arts & craft days instead. This is Emin & Paul (from Japan) who make the bestest hairbands ! (see me in the mirror? ha ha !)

For the longest time I have been waiting for some free time to reinvent Carousel (summer hols !). The plan is to develop a range of illustrations (painted of course) and turn them into cameos. The range would be based upon the fictional tales of the mischievous and naughty girl named Anna (yes, she has a lot of input into this, even patiently modelling poses for me).

This above illustration is of her swinging her legs on the potty and telling me to wait. The dog is fictional.. :)..

Ahh..the good old BBC, ITV and thankfully Sky cable. The staple of every night's entertainment...Don't get me wrong, I loved the Agatha Christie Weekend with back to back showings of every Marple and Poirot ever casted. Caught up on my Frost. Watched all the reruns on Ironside, The Saint, Time Team, Dr Who and Austen dramas. Topped off with the superb Antiques Roadshow on three times a day...Yes...it was an age of reminiscence for me.....

So to top off a really dead Thursday night I picked up the latest Sherlock reincarnation off the Sainsbury's DVD shelf for SGDP11.99 and was pleasantly surprised !

This is Sherlock "reset" in 2010..yeah came out last year.. starring Benedict Cumberbatch (seriously) as a sociopath; Sherlock Holmes. Cumberbatch was up for the 2011 BAFTA awards when I was in London (thrills!..he didn't win but the show picked up Best Drama). It also stars Martin Freeman (aka Gollum in the upcoming Hobbit) as a Afghanistan war veteran; Dr. Watson. Gollum was also up for a BAFTA too as the Doc and he won.

In summary, it was worth every penny and more ! Excellent witty script ! Totally recommended..all 3 episodes of it ! Yes...Brit tv. The complete first season was 3 episodes.

Now I have a Region 2 DVD that I can only watch in London ! ha ha ha !

PS. I still can't tell if Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the ugliest actors I have ever seen but it seems he was nominated by Elle UK as a Style maven ha ha ha !

London - Of Flowers, Food and Antiquing! - Part 1 Flowers

Sharing some of my holiday pics ! Since I had to suffer from hayfever so miserably the whole of the last week, I thought I'd take some pictures of the little villians ! We stayed in a service apartment called Fraser Suites Kensington Gardens (rack rate for 2 bedrooms + kitchen, washing machine, dish washer etc is GBP160 per night). It was cleaned every morning and came with a gated garden; the Stanhope Gardens.

The good news ! Heather's new cuff collection has been popular and this is due to you ladies and your support !

The bad news ! ..the downside of having a popular design...it has been brought to my attention that "Heather-inspired" cuffs have been recently launched in a certain retail outlet in town. No fears ! The "inspired" cuffs contain lower grade vintage but selling at the same price range - this I could not understand....

How to spot a Heather original ? - The cuff collection is "tagged" with the new Heather logo charms (phew!). Please know that your original Heather design is a work of art and much sourcing has gone into each bracelet. All the vintage parts on the bracelets are dated to the '50s and many are named pieces.

Came across this line in Liberty. Andrea Garland sources old vintage tins of different sizes, sterlizes them then fills them with lip balms, body balms and other ointments. The below picture is of the variety of lip balms I picked up to give as gifts for friends. Of course I'm keeping the tin which has my name! The coincidence ;)

My only (and younger) sister is getting married in July, so for the last few months there have been many discussions, show & tell and conversations over deco and dress. With the Royal Wedding over just recently, I only just noticed that this was the run up to wedding season !...ok...I've been a wee bit busy!

As the sister of the bride (thankfully not a bridesmaid nor matron of honour (Yeech!) ha ha !), I too have to find the correct attire for myself for the ROM, tea ceremony and of course the night event !

I started designing the Romance Collection with that in mind and also for all the ladies in the same position as myself !

The Romance Collection is fabulous for the bride at the ROM, a Bali beach wedding, her "sisters", ladies attending the events or even for "just because" !!

The Pillars of Hercules

This new cuff collection is the most beautiful and exquisite collection that I have ever made ! They felt more like art pieces to me and took me ages to put together each cuff.

I finally found a purpose of some rare vintage enamel flowers that I have been loathed to use (One, they were too beautiful. Two, they were too expensive..)

This collection invokes the nostalgia of travelling Europe in the summertime in the '50s where train travel was de rigueur. Its called "The Pillars of Hercules" because it reminded me of an old book I have (although it was travel through the Mediterrean in the 80s ha ha !).

Have you guys ever wondered how I occupy myself while I work ? I watch Korean dramas ! Well, I used to watch Japanese ones until the men got too broody and their waists got smaller than my thighs ! Seriously...

So my recommendations for K-dramas from 2010 are:

1) Dr Champ - Rom/Com, Drama - men with 8 pecs...enough said..

2) Daemul - Rom/Com, Drama

3) Oh! My Lady - Rom/Com, total silliness but love for the "old" aunty in her late 30s ! ha ha ha

And if you have the spare time:

4) Dream High - Rom/Com, Musical Drama - thought it was going to be crap but some good lessons there for young ones! and incredible talent from such young kids !

5) Secret Garden - Rom/Com - more total silliness but such great fun !

6) God of Study - took away maths foundation lessons for my son when we were doing P1 together

7) Sungkyunkwan Scandal - 90210 in the Joeson period ;)

8) President - serious drama ! surprisingly good script ! West Wing in Korean!)

As you can see, I prefer light hearted shows to keep me entertained while my hands are working. I'm a bit of a slow watcher eg one episode a day (at most!) but give me a good show and a good collection comes out. The recent cuffs were made during Dr. Champ :)...

Firstly THANK YOU for the incredible response to the last collection !!! Most pieces were purchased and reserved before I even stepped into Colette !!!

Since I ran out of bracelet stocks I had to delve into my personal stash to stock the shop ;)...I wasn't going to release this collection because I had planned to keep these three for myself but I was again accused of hoarding (and probably not wearing them but just collecting...sigh) so here they are ! Blooming 1.2 because its really an in-between collection until the bracelet cuff stocks arrive (max of 1 more month folks!).

Again, I had been planning this collection for awhile..I had in my mind the designs, execution etc but was missing good quality base materials like the bracelet cuffs ! Eventually I found some and bought 8 pieces to trial test... (yes these are part of the 8)...I spent 2 weeks wearing my test piece and great news ! No allergies and rashes on my incredibly sensitive skin (I still have scars from last month's test runs on clasps!)..

So here they are ! Blooms for the season, they can be worn casual to evening cocktail (I did that with mine!).The white collection was designed in mind for my sister's upcoming wedding celebrations, I wanted something "wedding-y" to wear at the ROM etc. ;)

All bracelets are tagged with the new Heather charm tags.

New Arrivals for Carousel @ Little Colette - Bracelets !

I had been planning to do a bracelet collection for Carousel for the longest time but I could not find the "perfect" materials; quality being the most important! I finally found the right beads and bells (yes! all those little character heads are actually sweet bells!) and shipped them over from Japan (BEFORE the incident)...

There are Keroppi (frog), Stitch, Winnie the Pooh, Rilakkuma (brown bear), Korilakkuma (white bear) and strawberry bell bracelets. Each bell bracelet is SGD38. The pink rose bracelets are beads hand made by a bead artisan from the US. The rose bracelets cost SGD42 each.

Available from Little Colette Forum and Paragon from this weekend onwards.

Well its about time !!! On a whim, I ordered a pile of customised logo charms from the US featuring my cutesy floating girl logo that you are all familar with since the business started in 2004!

I will be attaching my little logo charms to all bracelets and necklaces (earrings and rings if feasible ! ha ha !) from now on ! Hope you like them ! :)

PS. the backs of the charms don't say "Heather" cause it was an extra USD100 to engrave them on !!! Eep !O_O

My Friendship Bracelet collection

My Friendship Bracelets so far ! *yes the ones that give me a migraine !!*..I have been testing clasps, knots, patterns, weaving the vintage components in (til I ran out of small bits ! Now waiting for the shipments to arrive from the US) etc ! Yes I had to ALSO endure severe allergy on my inner wrist while testing third grade clasps ! Yuk !

I always wonder how long I can do this ? :)

Awhile ago, I bumped into one of my friends; Pauline who is an artist. She paints porcelain :)...The sad thing was that she informed me that she could no longer follow her passion because she found out recently that she was allergic to the turpentine fumes ... :(... We have lost a great porcelain artist here folks ! But never fear, I am trying to encourage her to paint cameos instead !

This meeting with her was made more poignant for me as recently I would suffer from migraines every evening if I worked 4 hours in the afternoon (especially on my Friendship Bracelet collection). Yes they stopped when I stopped making these bracelets too ! This led me to wonder how long I could keep on doing this as I get older... O_O

It all started from a recent question about the "friendship band" I was wearing..actually its was not a friendship band but my buddist protection string (containing many prayers made by multiple monks over indefinite periods !;)..). This was not the first time I was asked this but to prevent more of the same questions over 2011, I thought of making some "real" friendship bands to camouflage my protection string :)...

So I bought a kiddy diy book cum kit on how to weave friendship bracelets (inc strings in multiple colours) and read it...Being me, I never would go for standard (ha ha !) wear, so I planned to incorporate my traditional bling in the bands and weave them in pyschedelic colours and patterns ! This is my first attempt !...ok ok the colours are currently restricted by the freebie colours in the kit :)

Typical me... over ambitious again, started with one pattern down oneside and changed to another on the other ! ha ha ha ! Why go slow in the first try ?!

On the hand ...(my buddhist string is the multi coloured one on the left!)

My Pernakan moment !

I recently did a commission piece for a lady who was a docent at the Peranakan Museum. Her request was for a pernakan inspired piece. This is "Pernakan Dreaming" with an enamel butterfly tucked under some flowers :)

My inspiration were from the colours of the pottery, wall tiles and embroidery.
